De Guingand Bowl Race

De Guingand Bowl Race Rounds marks in central Channel (24h-36h)

TFS – Philosophie IV is 1st!

SATURDAY 19th MAY
Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) in association with the Société des Régates du Havre and the Royal Yacht Squadron (Website: www.rorc.org)

After a very successful 20 hours race last week at the Cervantes Race (Philosophie IV came 4th out of 24 boats in IRC1), the De Guingand Bowl Race was a new challenge. The race started from Cowes on Saturday the 19th of May at 8.30AM, continued in central Channel, and finished next to Portsmouth. The race was planned to be about 30 hours but a fast boat combined with strong winds and currents reduced the 144 miles to only 19 hours! The wind blown 20 to 25 knots (force 5) for most of the race and dropped completely on Sunday morning putting a huge spread between the first boats and the rest of the fleet. The crew has been well tested physically and mentally during this fantastic race where the fight with the other fast boats has been constant.
